- Burned Marine Boat - Men Fit Again
A day after a fire on a German Navy launch approximately 1.5 nautical miles off Warnemünde, the two lightly injured crew members are fit for duty again. They were taken to hospital after the fire on Wednesday, examined, and released the same evening, a navy spokesperson said.
The completely burned-out launch, around 10 meters long and 3 meters wide, is currently located at the naval base in Warnemünde. It will be investigated by both internal and external specialists to determine the cause of the fire, the spokesperson said. This process is expected to take several days.
The Rostock fire department extinguished the burning launch at sea on Wednesday afternoon. According to the navy, the launch belongs to the Warnemünde base and was supposed to support the Hanse Sail event. The German Navy traditionally participates in this maritime event, which lasts until Sunday. Among other things, the sailing school ship "Gorch Fock" is present in Warnemünde and can be visited.
The navy issued a warning to all vessels in the vicinity of Warnemünde due to the ongoing investigation of the fire-stricken launch. Viewing the burned-out launch may be potentially dangerous, so the public is advised to maintain a safe distance.
