Defense - Bundeswehr receives up to 6500 military trucks
The Bundeswehr will receive up to 6500 military lorries in the coming years. 250 of these so-called unarmored transport vehicles are expected to be available to the Bundeswehr from November, according to the procurement office in Koblenz. The order for 610 vehicles is firm and costs around 312 million Euro, which is financed from the special fund and the regular defense budget. The contract volume amounts to up to 3.5 billion Euro, according to the defense company Rheinmetall.
The framework contract between the procurement office and Rheinmetall stipulates that the Bundeswehr can flexibly order additional vehicles as needed. The lorries, according to the procurement office, will ensure logistical support in the homeland and during exercises. They could, for example, take on a remotely operated weapons station or protective equipment.
