Bundeswehr orders up to 82 helicopters from Airbus Helicopters
There was initially no official information on the sales sum of up to 2.7 billion euros mentioned in the media. According to Airbus, 57 of the firm orders are for the army and five for the special forces of the air force. This is the largest order for H145M helicopters to date.
"We are proud that the Bundeswehr has decided to place this order (...)", said Airbus Helicopters CEO Bruno Even. It is a robust military multi-role helicopter that can be converted from a light attack role for special missions within a few minutes, including with an abseiling system.
According to the information provided, the German Armed Forces already operate 24 helicopters from the product family. The US Army has over 500 H-145 helicopters, which are also in service in Hungary, Serbia, Thailand and Luxembourg. According to the manufacturer, the H145M helicopter is the quietest in its class.
Germany recently came under fire in France after the Bundeswehr decided to purchase US fighter jets.
