Bundeswehr column: obstructions due to major logistics exercise
Over the next few weeks, drivers in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern can expect disruptions, especially on freeways and main roads. The reason for this is the Bundeswehr logistics exercise "Blue Lightning 2023". According to the Bundeswehr, around 2,800 soldiers with 1,200 military vehicles will be driving through several federal states in northern and central Germany until November 30. The vehicles are trucks and heavy-duty low-loaders.
According to the Bundeswehr, military units will be moving from barracks in Lower Saxony, Brandenburg and Saxony-Anhalt to training areas in Saxony-Anhalt, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Thuringia from November 13 to 18. In the north-east, the first stop will be Hagenow in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district, according to a spokesperson. From there, it will continue to Trollenhagen and Jägerbrück. Trollenhagen will be served by 230 vehicles, Jägerbrück by 180 vehicles. The return trips are reportedly planned for November 21 to 29.
According to the Bundeswehr, the purpose of the exercise is to "practice logistical procedures in undeveloped terrain." Logistics troops are to set up supply bases for material, fuel and ammunition, for example.
The Bundeswehr appealed to drivers to pay particular attention on the main roads in the vicinity of the barracks and military training areas. The greatest possible distance should be maintained between vehicles. "In addition, for safety reasons, drivers should not drive between individual vehicles," the spokesperson warned.
The German Armed Forces, specifically the Bundeswehr, are undertaking a major logistics exercise named "Blue Lightning 2023," which involves over 2,800 soldiers and 1,200 military vehicles. This defense operation is expected to lead to significant disruptions on roads in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and other northern and central German states.
