Large order - Bundeswehr buys Airbus satellites for 2.1 billion euros

The Bundeswehr has given Airbus a large contract for building two communication satellites. The contract is worth 2.1 billion Euros and includes satellites and the corresponding ground stations, according to the aerospace and defense company in Munich. The contract also includes the ground stations.

The new systems, according to Airbus, will be able to keep up with larger data transfer volumes and weigh approximately six tons. Central parts will come from Germany. The Bundeswehr plans to put the communication satellites into operation still before the end of the decade. They are supposed to be operated by Airbus for 15 years.

The Space industry in Germany received a significant boost with the German Armed Forces placing a large order with Airbus S. A. S. in Munich. This military contract, worth 2.1 billion Euros, involves the construction of two communication satellites and the associated ground stations. The German Armed Forces' decision to collaborate with Airbus aligns with the country's growing involvement in the space sector.
