Assault on Politician - Bundestag deputy: "I won't back down!"

The political leader of the Green Party, Emily Büning, penned on X that "once more, a politician is under assault, indicating an attack on our democracy and fair voting process. We won't cave in!"

During a political gathering in Göttingen city center on Saturday, 39-year-old Kollenrot was attacked and sustained minor injuries. A man viciously hit her multiple times in the upper body. The cops apprehended the perpetrator promptly, identified him as a 66-year-old, and then set him free. They are now probing into the incident.

Kollenrot shared with the German Press Agency that the assault took place at a political event that she was moderating. She suffered a bruised arm, and the police recorded the damage. Kollenrot has been a legislator since October 2021, and her core focuses are environmental and energy policies.

Germany has recently been shaken by numerous assaults on politicians and their aides.
