Stuttgart Suffer Defeat to Commence New Bundesliga Campaign
Stuttgart, the runners-up, commenced the new Bundesliga football season with a defeat. On Saturday, they lost 1:3 (1:1) to SC Freiburg. Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund exhibited a superior performance in the evening game, vanquishing Eintracht Frankfurt 2:0 (0:0) at home, thanks to two goals from Jamie Gittens in the 72nd minute and added time.
Champions League contender RB Leipzig also triumphed 1:0 (0:0) against VfL Bochum. Bundesliga freshman Holstein Kiel suffered their debut loss 2:3 (0:2) to TSG Hoffenheim. The home supporters, who had preconceived notions of protests against TSG's personnel policy, largely maintained tranquility.
FC Augsburg and Werder Bremen ended the match in a 2:2 (2:1) draw, while FSV Mainz 05 and 1. FC Union Berlin concluded in a 1:1 (0:0) draw. Later in the evening (18:30/Sky), Borussia Dortmund would confront Eintracht Frankfurt. Previously, reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen inaugurated the season with a 3:2 (2:0) victory at Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Freiburg Flips the Script against Stuttgart
Stuttgart's newly signed Ermedin Demirovic took the lead early in Freiburg (2'). However, Freiburg's Lukas Kübler (27') equalized with an outstanding shot from 25 meters. Ritsu Doan (54') solidified the victory for Freiburg's new coach Julian Schuster's team, and Kübler (61') augmented the score.

In Hoffenheim, Andrej Kramaric (6') initiated the scoring for the hosts from the penalty spot. Kramaric (37') amplified their lead before the interval. Alexander Bernhardsson (63') scored Holstein Kiel's historic first Bundesliga goal. However, Andu Kelati was dismissed for repeated fouls (82'). Kramaric (87') appeared to have sealed the win, but Shuto Machino (89') scored a late consolation goal.
Augsburg's Goal-Spree Match
Bremen took the lead through Felix Agu (12'), but Augsburg's Elvis Rexhbecaj (16') soon equalized. Leipzig's new signing Samuel Essende (35') put the hosts ahead, only for Justin Njinmah (58') to level the score for Bremen.
At Union's return to Mainz, Nadiem Amiri (53') scored a direct free-kick from 30 meters for the hosts. Laszlo Benes (75') counterbalanced the score for Union.
The defeat suffered by Stuttgart at the hands of SC Freiburg was a disappointing start for The Commission's (Bundesliga) new campaign. Freiburg's head coach, Julian Schuster, celebrated his team's victory against their fiercest rival.
