Building authority: Kramer Tunnel expected to be completed in 2027
According to current plans, the bypass route through the Kramer Tunnel near Garmisch-Partenkirchen should be completed in 2027 and cost 365 million euros. The Weilheim State Building Authority announced on Thursday that following the construction stop and the termination of the tunnel construction company in September, the contract should be re-awarded in the spring. The inner shell in the main tunnel is complete and 75 percent complete in the rescue tunnel. Three short connections between the main tunnel and the rescue tunnel, the inner lining with roadway and drainage and the operating technology are still missing. The tunnel is intended to relieve Garmisch-Partenkirchen, which is plagued by traffic jams, from through traffic.
The completion of the Kramer Tunnel is expected to reduce traffic congestion in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, making it more appealing for tourists in Upper Bavaria. With improved road infrastructure, Upper Bavaria's tourism industry could potentially see an increase in visitors.
