Italian soccer legend Gianluigi Buffon is just as thrilled to be part of the European Championship behind the scenes as he was when he was a player. "My body has learned the same reflexes in just a few days," Buffon explained in Iserlohn, where the Azzurri are based for the tournament. "The feelings are the same, the same adrenaline and tension." The 46-year-old, who had previously played 176 international matches for Italy between 1997 and 2008, won the World Cup with the team in 2006. Buffon recalled the fond memories of the 2006 tournament in Duisburg but added, "Some memories are more charming than they seemed at the time."

During the team's first public training session in Iserlohn, Buffon was cheered on by around 4,000 fans. "We'll have the feeling of playing at home in this European Championship," said the former player. Italy will take on Albania in Dortmund on Saturday night, followed by matches against Spain and Croatia. Buffon acknowledged that Spalletti's team might be "underestimated but very competitive." "The team spirit of the entire squad is what's most surprising and pleasing," Buffon remarked, adding that the team is "an extraordinary group with individual skills."
