Finances - Budget politicians: agreement on state budget

After weeks of negotiations, the red-red-green minority coalition and the opposition CDU parliamentary group are said to have largely reached an agreement on the state budget. The budget is largely in place, with a few details still being fine-tuned, according to the two negotiating parties on Tuesday. A number of compromises had been reached. These include a subsidy program for families buying their first home for their own use. A subsidy of five percent of the purchase price, up to a maximum of 25,000 euros, is planned.

The governing coalition had raised constitutional objections to a passage on family support in the law pushed through by the CDU, AfD and FDP to reduce the real estate transfer tax from 6.5 to 5.0 percent. As a compromise to the CDU, family support is now to be regulated via a directive.

The search for a compromise was necessary because the Left, SPD and Greens do not have their own majority in the state parliament - the governing coalition is four votes short.

The budget politicians of the four parliamentary groups had recently negotiated an amount of around 250 million euros. The money should not be available to finance the budget, but should remain in the state's financial reserve for emergencies. It should not be empty at the end of 2024, as planned by the government, but should still contain around 500 million euros.

The state parliament administration has announced a plenary session for December 20, in which the state budget is to be finally discussed and approved.
