Session - Budget debate begins in the state parliament
Lower Saxony's state parliament will hold its final debate on the budget for 2024 on Tuesday (9.00 a.m.). The volume is set to amount to 42.3 billion euros, as announced by the Ministry of Finance. This is slightly more than this year (plus 0.7 percent).
The core plans of the state government made up of the SPD and the Greens include increasing the salaries of teachers at primary, secondary and intermediate schools, setting up a state-owned company to create affordable housing and further expanding access to high-speed internet.
Minister President Stephan Weil (SPD) said that his government had presented a "realistic and reliable set of figures" compared to the federal government. The vote on the budget is planned for Thursday.
