Alliance Sahra Wagenknecht - BSW will not sacrifice peace - Critique of Wagenkelt
The Thuringian BSW sees its stance on War and Peace as a "brand cornerstone" and intends to hold onto it even in the event of potential government participation. "If we sacrifice that on the altar of political business, then we don't deserve to be re-elected," BSW co-CEO Steffen Schütz told the German Press Agency (dpa) in Erfurt.
Sahra Wagenknecht told dpa: "We will only participate in a state government that also takes a clear position for diplomacy and against war preparation." It is clear that "a new arms race consumes billions that are urgently needed for schools, hospitals, housing, and higher pensions."
BSW intends to raise the issue in the Bundesrat
The Left-Green Alliance (The Left) is making serious allegations against the BSW. Thuringian Green Party candidate Madeleine Henfling expressed doubts about the BSW's willingness to govern. "Those who believe that a stable coalition government of BSW/CDU/SPD is possible are mistaken!", she said in a statement. The BSW does not want to govern to keep the federal election free from responsibility at the state level. "Or in short: Wagenknecht doesn't care much about Thuringia." On the issue of War and Peace, Henfling said: "We will certainly not sacrifice solidarity with Ukraine in Thuringia! The same goes for the SPD and CDU."
Thuringia's AfD spokesperson Björn Höcke recently attacked the BSW, saying that as soon as the party enters a coalition, it will "sing the song of war advocates." The Thuringian AfD is classified as reliably extremist right-wing by the state constitutional protection and is monitored.
Schütz acknowledged that the issue of War and Peace could be a conflict field with potential coalition partners like the SPD or the CDU. However, no exploratory talks are currently taking place, but rather an attempt to win voters in the campaign.
SPD chief sees diversionary maneuver
Thuringia's SPD candidate and Interior Minister Georg Maier accused Wagenknecht of extortion. "There is no foreign policy made in state governments," he told the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland (RND). "The theme is a diversionary maneuver for lacking state issues. Besides headlines, there is nothing behind it."
Thuringia's Minister-President Bodo Ramelow (The Left) told RND: He would be happy about any initiative to bring lasting peace in Ukraine. However, the goals printed on the ballots for the state election by the CDU and the BSW "unfortunately have less and less to do with state politics. That's a dilemma, because it normalizes populism."
