Handball - BSV Sachsen Zwickau aims for play-off participation
Zwickau (dpa) – Looking up instead of down - the Bundesliga handball players of BSV Sachsen Zwickau want to have nothing to do with the relegation fight in the upcoming season.
"We want to play for something for the first time in our history in the 1. Bundesliga and not against something," trainer Norman Rentsch told the "Freie Presse" Chemnitz and emphasized: "We want to make it to the playoffs."
The Zwickau women are entering their fourth season in the highest German league. In the past years, it was always about league survival. "The league will play in a new format from now on, the top eight teams are in the playoffs, the last four in the play-downs. I know that's a very big and ambitious goal. But why shouldn't we strive for it?", Rentsch said. He also referred to the expectations from outside: "That's slowly also the expectation of the fans."
To achieve the lofty goal, Rentsch has completely reorganized the routines. The team is already back in basic training. After two weeks of regeneration leave, the second preparation phase begins on July 22, during which the team's cohesion is the focus. The number of preparation tournaments and test matches has been significantly reduced.
