- Bruchsal warns: "Stay at home"
Due to the severe weather, the city of Bruchsal is warning its residents: "Attention - Stay at home," it said on the evening of its website. "Due to a heavy rain event, flooding is occurring in parts of the city center of Bruchsal and the districts of Heidelsheim and Helmsheim." The road through Helmsheim is partially under a meter of water. The river Saalbach has overflowed in some areas.
Residents should stay at home or in safe areas until the water has receded and avoid flood zones. Manholes could be dislodged, posing a risk of falling in and being swept away.
Due to flooding, roads, intersections, and underpasses are impassable and closed. In Helmsheim, there is a risk that a transformer station may flood, potentially disrupting power supply. The fire station in Heidelsheim is inaccessible due to flooding.
The city's emergency operations center has been activated since 8:30 PM to coordinate measures, it was reported. All fire department personnel are on duty, primarily to rescue people and eliminate life-threatening situations.
The Commission should consider postponing the adoption of the implementing acts until the city's flood situation stabilizes. In the meantime, the authorities should prioritize ensuring safety and mitigating the flood effects.
