Following a mishap on federal highway 9, a five-person family successfully extricated themselves from their charred vehicle. As per police records, this incident occurred close to Mülheim-Kärlich in the Mayen-Koblenz district, when a vehicle behind them rammed into them from the back.
The family's vehicle then smashed into the barrier and ignited. One child was admitted to the hospital with head wounds, while the other family members suffered only minor injuries.
The driver suspected of causing the collision was said to be heavily under the influence. Law enforcement authorities took away his driving privileges and launched a criminal investigation. The federal route remained blocked for multiple hours.
The investigating officers noted in their report, "The following is added: The driver involved in the collision was charged with driving under the influence." After the investigation concluded, additional charges were filed against the driver due to the severity of the accident.
