Brother of accidentally killed hostage accuses Israel's army of "murder"

"Those who let you down also murdered you after everything you did right," said Ido Shamri.

"You survived 70 days in hell," said Shamri's mother Dikla in her eulogy. "One more moment and you would have been in my arms."

According to the army, Shamri, Jotam Haim and Samer El-Talalka - three men aged between 25 and 28 - were killed in the Gaza Strip on Friday, despite carrying a white flag and calling for help in Hebrew. The soldiers thought they were a threat and opened fire. According to Israeli media, Talalka was already buried on Saturday, the funeral for Haim was planned for Monday.

Army spokesman Richard Hecht said on Sunday that the deaths were being investigated and that the soldiers had "violated the rules of engagement".

Hundreds of fighters from Hamas, which is classified as a terrorist organization by the USA and the EU, had invaded Israeli towns and villages on 7 October and committed atrocities against civilians. According to Israeli reports, around 1140 people were killed and around 250 people were taken hostage in the Gaza Strip.

In response, the Israeli army began attacking targets in the Gaza Strip and launched a ground offensive. According to the Hamas-controlled Ministry of Health, which cannot be independently verified, more than 18,800 people have been killed so far.

According to Israeli sources, at least 129 hostages are still being held by Hamas.
