Bronze statue stolen from Mirow Castle Island

A 50-centimetre-high contemporary bronze statue has been stolen from the castle island of Mirow (Mecklenburg Lake District), according to police. The value of the work by artist Dorothee Rätsch has been estimated at 7,000 euros. The sculpture may have been stolen from its stone plinth some time ago, according to a police statement on Tuesday. It was last seen in its place by members of the island association at the beginning of September, said a police spokeswoman. In the fall, there were fewer of them there - it was only now that they noticed that the figure was missing. The police are now looking for clues as to the whereabouts of the statue.

The theft of the bronze statue from Mirow Castle Island has been classified as a crime. Despite its artistic value, the loss of this contemporary art piece is a significant disappointment for the artist and the island association.
