British ex-prime minister Johnson jumps to Sunak's side in the final spurt of the election campaign
The leader of the opposition Labour Party, Keir Starmer, will try to bring "the most left-wing Labour government" since World War II into power, Johnson said.
According to a survey right before Johnson's intervention, Labour was predicted to have a landslide victory over the Tories, even surpassing the result from 1997 under Tony Blair. This means Labour could receive up to 484 of the total 650 seats in the London House of Commons on Thursday.
Labour has been consistently ahead of the governing Tories in the polls for the past two years. Opposition leader Starmer is all but certain to become the next Prime Minister.
Johnson, who secured a majority of 80 seats for the Tories in the last parliamentary election in 2019, was notably absent during the campaign. Several ministers, including his former finance minister Sunak, resigned in protest against Johnson's scandals and forced him to resign.
