British and Germans commemorate soldiers at Southwest Churchyard
On Sunday, German and British citizens commemorated the fallen soldiers of the First and Second World Wars at the British military cemetery at the Südwestkirchhof in Stahnsdorf. "As every year, Germans and British, military and civilians commemorate the victims of war and tyranny together at the graves," announced the Friends of the Southwest Churchyard. According to the information, 1176 soldiers, sailors and members of the United Kingdom's merchant navy are buried on the approximately one-hectare site on the grounds of the churchyard. The British government has been celebrating Remembrance Sunday at Stahnsdorf South West Churchyard since 1924.
The commemoration event highlighted the importance of remembering the devastating impact of war on history. This yearly tradition serves as a testament to the enduring peace efforts and mutual respect between the two nations, symbolized through their shared memorials.
