"Bringing the bridge to life": New coach relies on fans

In his first game as head coach of VfL Osnabrück, former assistant coach Martin Heck is focusing on one factor in particular: the atmosphere in the stadium at Bremer Brücke. "We have to live it again and show on the pitch that it's something special to come here. That people perhaps have a little reverence for Bremer Brücke again. We have to radiate that," said the 40-year-old ahead of the home match against 1. FC Magdeburg (Saturday, 1pm/Sky), who are without a win in eight matches. "We have to bring the bridge to life."

The team at the bottom of the Bundesliga 2 table has only won one of seven home games so far this season. This is one of the reasons why promotion coach Tobias Schweinsteiger had to leave after the 3-2 defeat at Eintracht Braunschweig last week. It remains to be seen whether Heck is only an interim solution or will be promoted to head coach permanently.

The long-time youth coach of 1. FC Köln has to replace three important players for his debut. Dave Gnaase and Michaël Cuisance are suspended. Captain Timo Beermann tore a muscle fiber during the game in Braunschweig. "He's still a bit sore. We don't want to take any risks," said Heck.

VfL Osnabrück's new coach, Martin Heck, emphasizes the importance of fan support for the home match against 1. FC Magdeburg in Bundesliga 2, as they aim to recreate the special atmosphere at Bremer Brücke. Despite the team's struggles with only one win at home this season, losing their promotion coach Tobias Schweinsteiger following a defeat, VfL Osnabrück's new interim coach will be without key players Dave Gnaase, Michaël Cuisance, and an injured Timo Beermann from 1. FC Magdeburg for the game.
