Bremen's Verdi union announces plans for a port strike.

Workers at the port of Bremen are being urged to strike by the trade union Verdi on Tuesday. Despite completing the second round of talks with the Central Association of German Seaport Operators (ZDS) regarding improved salaries, Verdi stated on Monday night that no viable offer had been made.

"No actual raise in wages for workers," commented Verdi representative Maren Ulbrich. To put pressure on the situation, dock workers were instructed to halt their work from 6:00 am on Tuesday until the evening. The reason for this action, according to Ulbrich, is due to the unsatisfactory proposal made by the employers.

Verdi is seeking, among other demands, a 3-euro bump in hourly pay effective June 1st, along with a matching increase in overtime pay.

The proposed wage increase by employers in Bremen's Seaport did not meet the expectations of trade unions, specifically the United Services Union (Verdi). As a result, Verdi announced a port strike, with dock workers to halt their work from 6:00 am on Tuesday until the evening. The strikes aimed to press for a 3-euro hourly wage increase effective June 1st, and a matching increase in overtime pay, during the current negotiation round.
