- Breeds Boniface and Leverkusen Terrier Engaged in a Cup Competition
Bayer Leverkusen is facing the absence of both Victor Boniface and Martin Terrier in their upcoming DFB-Pokal matches. According to the German Football Association's (DFB) Sports Court in Frankfurt/Main, Boniface is set to miss one game, while Terrier will be out for two.
The Sports Court handed down these penalties based on Terrier's foul play and subsequent red card in the Supercup match against VfB Stuttgart. Boniface, on the other hand, was disciplined for his unacceptable conduct during the same game.
Boniface was found guilty of disrespecting referee Stieler. After the final whistle, the striker made a rude gesture, showing the referee Tobias Stieler the middle finger as he passed by. As a result, Boniface was hit with a hefty fine of 25,000 euros.
The DFB Sports Court views the Supercup as a distinct game with significant cup-like characteristics. Consequently, it is considered equal to a DFB-Pokal match in terms of penalties, as detailed in the announcement. Consequently, the suspensions were imposed for this particular competition.
Despite his offence during the Supercup match, Victor Boniface will still miss one DFB-Pokal match due to his disciplinary action. Temporarily ruling out both Terrier and Boniface, Bayer Leverkusen will have to adjust their squad for the upcoming DFB-Pokal matches.
