After a suspected food theft in a Heilbronn supermarket, a man allegedly injured several officers at the police station. According to police and prosecutors, the 31-year-old homeless man was taken into custody on suspicion of theft with weapons and assaulting on-duty officers.

According to reports, the suspect had attempted to buy a Cola and a loaf of bread worth 3.05 Euros at a discount store in the previous week, but his coins and a voucher were not enough for payment. When he tried to leave without paying, two employees detained him until the police arrived.

Since he refused to provide his identification, the officers searched his backpack and found tools and a 22 centimeter long screwdriver in it. Although the man had not used the screwdriver but had it readily available, he was charged with theft with weapons, a police spokesperson said.

The suspect was taken to the police station to determine his identity. According to police, during the process of putting on handcuffs, he became agitated and threw himself around, punching one officer. Four officers were injured as a result.
