Mobility of the future - Braunschweig research region seeks mobility solutions

With projects such as a self-driving shuttle at the research airport, the Braunschweig region wants to further establish itself as an important center for the mobility of the future.

"Braunschweig is the most research-intensive region in Europe," said Lord Mayor Thorsten Kornblum. The SPD politician said at a parliamentary evening in the Lower Saxony state representation in Berlin that this was evident in the Braunschweig-Wolfsburg research airport, among other things.

According to Kornblum, leading research institutions came together there, such as the German Aerospace Center (DLR), the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) and the Technical University. They gave an insight into their work and their vision for the future of mobility. The VW subsidiary Financial Services presented a mobility platform that is currently being developed.

Federal Minister of Labor Hubertus Heil(SPD) pointed out that the mobility industry must be seen in a new light as a job provider. He cited the planned takeover of employees at the Conti plant in Gifhorn by Siemens Mobility in Braunschweig as a positive example.

Lower Saxony's Transport Minister Olaf Lies (SPD) said that he was also concerned about some aspects of the development in electromobility. "But it is dangerous to approach innovation with restraint," said Lies, referring to the debate on the range of electric cars. It is important to focus on electromobility. "We also need a society that enjoys change," said Lies.
