Finances - Brandenburg state parliament to declare emergency again
Following the budget ruling by the Federal Constitutional Court, Brandenburg's governing coalition wants to secure its aid package with debt amounting to two billion euros. To this end, the state parliament is to declare another emergency for 2024 on Wednesday due to the consequences of the Russian attack on Ukraine and high inflation. The Brandenburg package is intended to cushion the high costs for local authorities, companies and families.
Prior to this, parliamentarians will debate the consequences of the Federal Constitutional Court's ruling in a topical debate (10.00 a.m.). At the beginning of next year, the coalition wants to clearly state the necessary investments for which new debt is to be taken on in a supplementary budget. Previously, half a billion euros had been set aside as a general provision.
In the afternoon, the state parliament will once again debate a motion by the Left Party parliamentary group to declare International Women's Day on March 8 a public holiday in Brandenburg, as is the case in Berlin. An initial proposal by the Left Party for the holiday failed in the state parliament last year.
