Brandenburg Gate smeared with paint again
Climate activists once again smeared the Brandenburg Gate with orange paint on Thursday. As the group Letzte Generation announced on Thursday, members painted the west side of the building with paintbrushes. The Berlin police reported on X, formerly Twitter, that two climate activists had been arrested.
The Brandenburg Gate is currently scaffolded on the east side for cleaning work after a previous paint attack by the group. The police arrested 14 climate activists in the course of the first attack in mid-September. The work is expected to cost at least 115,000 euros in total.
The act of vandalism against the Brandenburg Gate is a recurring issue for climate activists. This incident brings up concerns about the preservation of historical monuments in the face of environmental protests.
