BR Volleys win five-set thriller in Friedrichshafen

The Berlin Volleys have qualified for the quarter-finals of the German Volleyball Cup after a five-set thriller. The defending cup holders from the capital won 3:2 (25:20, 22:25, 26:28, 25:19, 15:13) at arch-rivals VfB Friedrichshafen on Saturday after trailing 1:2 in sets. Diagonal attacker Marek Sotola used the second match point to win.

The volleys were initially in control with their strong service game. However, the team ran into problems when it not only squandered a five-point lead (13:8) and later a 20:17 lead in the third set, but was also unable to capitalize on two set points at the end. In the end, the tie-break had to decide the match, in which VfB trailed by up to two points throughout.

SC Potsdam also advanced to the quarter-finals of the women's volleyball tournament. Coach Riccardo Boieri's team won clearly 3:0 (25:13, 25:21, 25:21) at Bundesliga last-placed VC Neuwied 77 on Saturday. In front of just 150 spectators in Neuwied, the US American Danielle Harbin was the winner's most successful attacker with ten points.

The Berlin Volleys' victory in the Round of sixteen of the DVV Cup sets them up for a quarter-final clash against an opposing team. Marek Sotola clinched their spot in the quarter-finals with a crucial diagonal attack in the five-set thriller against VfB Friedrichshafen.

With their success in the DVV Cup, BR Volleys continue to show their prowess in volleyball, aiming to defend their title in the upcoming rounds.
