Volleyball Bundesliga - BR Volleys succeed in dress rehearsal for the premier class

The Berlin Volleys remain on course for success in the Volleyball Bundesliga. The German champions secured their ninth win in nine games against newly promoted Baden Volleys Karlsruhe with an unchallenged 3:0 (25:18, 25:16, 25:13). In front of 4017 spectators in the Max-Schmeling-Halle, Daniel Malescha, who only came on as a substitute in the second set, was the winner's most successful attacker with 13 points.

Volleys coach Joel Banks started with almost his regular line-up. They were supposed to find their rhythm ahead of the important Champions League home game against Halkbank Ankara on Wednesday. However, the team only really got going at the start of the second set, when Frenchman Timothee Carle took a 9:1 lead with a spectacular series of serves.

The home side dominated this set at will from 12:2, 18:6 and 21:9, although Banks also brought on players from the bench at times. It was to the Baden team's credit that they had only arrived by train on the day of the game. They had left Karlsruhe at 6 o'clock in the morning.

The Berlin team had an easy game against an opponent that was becoming increasingly tired. Outside attacker Carle in particular regularly posed insurmountable problems for the Karlsruhe defense with his hard serves. US-American Cody Kessel also contributed ten points to the win.
