BR Volleys set an example in Friedrichshafen
The Berlin Volleys have made an impressive statement. In their bid to become the sole record champions in German volleyball next year, they rolled over VfB Friedrichshafen (25:21, 25:19, 25:20) 3:0 away from home in the Bundesliga on Friday evening. However, the Berlin players still had cause for self-criticism after the match. "Actually," said their setter Johannes Tille, "we have to really step on the gas for a whole set. We haven't managed that so far this season."
The BR Volleys undoubtedly allowed themselves to be careless in the course of the match, which only lasted 73 minutes, for example in the first set, when they were quickly 9:3 ahead but fell behind for the first time at 17:18. "When we have a comfortable lead, we sometimes lose our energy," says captain Ruben Schott. He demands: "We have to stop doing that."
Johannes Tille was also aware that Friedrichshafen had already played a tough five-set match at SVG Lüneburg (2:3) 48 hours earlier. "In the end, VfB lacked the strength against us," he remarked. But the BR Volleys also had a stressful week behind them with three away games in just six days, with the team covering around 3,000 kilometers on the bus. This ordeal was certainly a success for the Berliners: they had also won at VfB Friedrichshafen just under a week earlier, 3:2 in the DVV Cup round of 16.
The BR Volleys' victory over VfB Friedrichshafen in the Bundesliga was a significant contribution to their pursuit of becoming the sole record champions in German volleyball. Despite this, their setter Johannes Tille highlighted the need for improvement, stating that they need to maintain energy and intensity for a full set. Meanwhile, BR Volleys will be playing volleyball in the Bundesliga again, showcasing their skills in the upcoming matches.
