BR Volleys expect tough resistance against promoted team

The Berlin Volleys are bracing themselves for tough opposition in their home game in the Volleyball Bundesliga against newly promoted VC Bitterfeld-Wolfen on Wednesday (8 p.m.). "This is a team where the players fight hard for each other," says coach Joel Banks. His goal: "We don't just want to win, we want to use the game to develop further."

With the two successful performances at VfB Friedrichshafen within just six days in the cup (3:2) and in the league (3:0), the BR Volleys have underlined their outstanding position in German volleyball. "Our 3:0 win in particular was a statement. We want to build on that," says Banks.

The head coach was particularly impressed by the top form of libero Satoshi Tsuiki during the match at Lake Constance after recovering from his hip injury. "He played as if he had never been away," praised Banks. Against Bitterfeld-Wolfen, he will also be able to call on diagonal attacker Daniel Malescha, who has now returned to team training following his appendicitis.

With seven points from four games, Bitterfeld-Wolfen is the strongest of the four promoted teams so far. However, the Saxony-Anhalt side are extremely modest ahead of the game in Berlin. "We use games like this to gain experience at a really high level," says their coach Alessandro Lodi.

BR Volleys will face a determined challenge from Bitterfeld-Wolfen's volleyball team in the Bundesliga, given their strong performances as a promoted team. Coach Joel Banks is confident about using this game as an opportunity for his team to further develop, especially with Satoshi Tsuiki's impressive form and Daniel Malescha's return to team training.
