BR Volleys ahead of top match: "Performance must improve"
Seven competitive matches, seven wins: the Berlin Volleys' record so far this season is impressive. However, the German champions are by no means content ahead of their clash of giants in the Volleyball Bundesliga at VfB Friedrichshafen on Friday (20:00/Dyn). "Our playing performance has to improve," demands managing director Kaweh Niroomand. "We're not blocking well at the moment, and I also expect more on the serve."
The volleyball team will now face Friedrichshafen, who lost 2:3 at SVG Lüneburg on Wednesday, for the third time in 19 days. In the two previous games, the capital club had the upper hand: first 3:0 in the Bounce House Cup in Hildesheim, then last Friday with a narrow 3:2 in the DVV Cup round of 16. However, Niroomand does not see these two results as an expression of the BR Volleys' general superiority over their arch-rivals this season. "Accept it and tick it off," is his rather pragmatic comment on the team's performance against their eternal rivals so far.
In any case, the Volleys' managing director is certain: "Both teams are still in a development process at the moment." The Berliners have traveled to Lake Constance without their second diagonal attacker Daniel Malescha. The 29-year-old is suffering from appendicitis and may need an operation.
The Berlin Volleys, currently in the Bundesliga, are set to face VfB Friedrichshafen, after their victories in seven consecutive matches. Kaweh Niroomand, the managing director, emphasizes the need for improvement in their playing performance, particularly in blocking and serving, ahead of the highly anticipated match.
Despite their wins against Friedrichshafen in the Bounce House Cup and DVV Cup round of 16, Niroomand is careful not to read too much into these results, acknowledging that both teams are still undergoing development this season.
