- - Boy seriously injured.

A cabriolet driver in Prora on Rügen struck and seriously injured a 13-year-old student from Bremen. The unknown man then fled the scene, according to initial police reports. The driver is believed to have deliberately sped towards the child. The eighth-grader, who was part of a group of seven students, is said to have provoked the driver with a gesture beforehand.

The driver then reversed after a few meters and, according to eyewitness accounts, deliberately drove towards the boy at high speed. In the resulting head-on collision on Wednesday evening, the student was thrown several meters through the air before landing on a green area. The boy was seriously injured and airlifted to the hospital. The student group was on a class trip to Rügen.

The Criminal Police are now investigating on suspicion of dangerous bodily harm and hit-and-run. The driver, who is believed to have been alone in the vehicle, is described as being between 20 and 40 years old. He is said to have been wearing a baseball cap, long outerwear, a vest, and beige pants. The police are appealing for witnesses to come forward and also urge the driver to contact them.

The police are actively looking for the driver in connection with the hit-and-run incident. Later that day, the police issued a description of the suspect, asking for any witnesses who saw a man fitting that description to provide information.
