Boxing and leisure club is state winner of "Stars of Sport"
The Greifswald Boxing and Leisure Club is the winner at state level in the "Stars of Sport" competition. Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's Sports Minister Stefanie Drese (SPD) presented the award in Rostock on Wednesday. The Greifswald Boxing and Leisure Club had entered the competition with its "Integration through Sport" project.
The club was "an absolutely deserving winner and a worthy representative from our state for the national final", said Drese. "I am particularly impressed by the great, very direct integration of refugees, which is based above all on the close connection between the club and the refugee accommodation in Greifswald. Training at the Käthe Kollwitz School is often the first contact between people with and without a history of flight."
By winning at state level, the club has qualified for the national final. The patron is Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. The "Stars of Sport" competition recognizes exceptional activities or offers from sports clubs and especially their social commitment.
The Greifswald Boxing and Leisure Club's success at the state level in the "Stars of Sport" competition underscores the effectiveness of their "Integration through Sport" project, focusing onrefugee integration. The club's victory also secures their participation in the national final of the competition, which is patronized by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and celebrates outstanding sports clubs and their social commitments.
