- Borussia Dortmund prefers a reduced team roster - Sahin discusses Brunner transfer switch
Borussia Dortmund's Manager Nuri Sahin has indicated potential changes in his team before the closure of the transfer window on August 30th. "I believe there will still be some shifts on the outgoing side. Some players might find it challenging with the new additions and the overall team size," stated Sahin, before Dortmund's Bundesliga opener against Eintracht Frankfurt at 6:15 PM.
Two players, striker Youssoufa Moukoko and midfielder Salih Özcan, are said to be up for sale. Neither player featured in the team that secured a 4-1 victory against Phoenix Lübeck in the last weekend's cup game. Regarding Moukoko, who has recently been associated with Betis Sevilla, Sahin explained, "I've made it clear to him about his situation. It won't be easy for him to secure playing time. He desires to play. That's settled. Every player knows their standing with me."
Sahin: "We cannot make any promises"
The manager laments but accepts that Dortmund has already lost a prospect in the form of one-year younger Paris Brunner, who joined AS Monaco. "We cannot make any promises, this club is too big. What am I expected to do? Tell someone, 'If you extend, you'll be in the starting lineup.' That's not how it works."
A deal could not be reached because Brunner was dissatisfied with the prospects shown to him. The promising player, who was voted as the best at the U17 World Cup, sought a permanent spot in the professional team, but Dortmund couldn't guarantee it. Monaco, the French Champions League participant, has immediately loaned Brunner to Cercle Brugge for a year.
Guirassy's absence
Striker Serhou Guirassy, who is recovering well from a knee injury, is the only absentee in the squad. Sahin is eagerly awaiting his Bundesliga debut as Dortmund's head coach: "This day is special for me in two ways. Firstly, my daughter celebrates her birthday, which is a significant event for me. Secondly, I have been eagerly waiting for the first home game in the Bundesliga like a child. We will be ready."
Despite the potential sale of striker Youssoufa Moukoko and midfielder Salih Özcan, Borussia Dortmund'sManager Nuri Sahin mentioned that BVB's first-team squad may see shifts due to new additions and the overall team size, implying that BVB Borussia Dortmund (BVB) could potentially swap out some players to accommodate the newcomers.
In a bid to guarantee a permanent spot in the professional team, Paris Brunner, the promising player who was voted as the best at the U17 World Cup, opted to join AS Monaco instead, leaving Borussia Dortmund (BVB) with a vacancy in their squad.
