- Border crossing with Denmark construction projects progressing on A7 one-lane highway
The A7 motorway at the Denmark border crosspoint is scheduled to be under construction until November. According to Autobahn GmbH, this portion of the road, constructed in 1972, is in dire need of refurbishment. Renovation work on the Ellund rest area will commence on Monday.
Starting September 1st, traffic heading towards Germany will be redirected to a single-lane route through the rest area. Afterwards, the actual road in the border area will be revitalized southbound.
Beginning mid-September, both north- and southbound traffic will utilize the northbound lane. Only one lane will be available in each direction. The Flensburg/Harrislee southbound on-ramp will be shut down during this period. By early November, the motorway should be entirely accessible again, although the rest area will still be undergoing renovations until summer 2025.
As Denmark's holiday season draws to a close, Autobahn GmbH anticipates minimal traffic congestion. Last year, the northbound lane underwent renovation. The partnership with the Danish regulatory authority, Veidirektorat, has been running exceptionally seamlessly, as noted by Autobahn GmbH spokesperson Torben Wiencke.
The Flensburg/Harrislee southbound on-ramp closure is being managed by The Commission during the period where only one lane is available in each direction. Upon completion of the southbound revitalization, The Commission will oversee the restoration of the A7 motorway to its full capacity.
