- Bomb Threats Repeated - Seven Schools Affected
Following bomb threats against two schools in Plauen, the police have given the all-clear. On Thursday morning, identical emails were received at the secondary schools, as the police reported. Initially, the seriousness of the threats had to be assumed. Consequently, the schools were locked down before the start of school.
The police searched the buildings with sniffer dogs but found no suspicious objects. The students were reportedly sent home from the respective schools or initially cared for outside the school building.
Threats also in Mittelsachsen and Erzgebirgskreis
So far, it is still unclear whether there is a connection to the bomb threats from Wednesday, but further schools have received identical emails, a spokeswoman for the police headquarters in Zwickau said.
According to a statement, there was also a police deployment at a primary school in Zittau, where a bomb threat was received during the night. However, initial investigations did not suggest that the writing was serious. Therefore, the school was not evacuated.
Threats were also received by two schools each in Marienberg (Erzgebirgskreis) and Rochlitz (district of Mittelsachsen), as a spokesman for the police headquarters in Chemnitz reported. Here too, the police did not consider the threat to be serious, so that lessons could continue as normal.
On Wednesday, a school in Freiberg was also affected, where lessons could take place. However, this was not the case at two schools in Görlitz and one each in Bautzen and Lauta, where the operation was interrupted and the buildings were searched. Afterwards, the police gave the all-clear. The investigations are still ongoing. In Saxony, schools only started again after the holidays on Monday.
Parallel to the events in East Saxony, threats were also received in Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt on Wednesday. In a case in Jena, the police found out that identical emails were sent to schools nationwide, as was reported. Whether there is a connection to the threats against the schools in Saxony was initially not known, according to the police headquarters in Görlitz.
The children were sent home from the secondary schools following the bomb threats. Despite receiving similar threats, a primary school in Zittau was not evacuated due to initial investigations suggesting the threat wasn't serious, allowing the children to continue their lessons.
