- Bomb threat: Police deploy to schools
Bomb Threats Disrupt Operations at Four Schools in Eastern Saxony
On Wednesday morning, police responded to incidents at two schools in Görlitz and one each in Bautzen and Lauta after bomb threats were received via email overnight. The schools were searched and later deemed safe by police. Teachers had already evacuated students by the time police arrived.
Initial investigations suggest the threats were not credible, but some schools still suspended operations as a precaution. Police continue to investigate. Schools in Saxony had only reopened on Monday following the holiday break.
Multiple Incidents Also Reported in Thuringia
Thuringia experienced several bomb threats at the start of the new school year last week. Identical emails were sent from the same address to multiple schools. Students and teachers were evacuated, and police searched the buildings, with sniffer dogs also deployed. No explosives were found.
Another threat was received at the Gutenberg-Gymnasium in Erfurt during the same time as the incidents in Eastern Saxony. The school was immediately evacuated and cordoned off. The school day has been suspended until further notice.
Despite the ongoing chaos in Eastern Saxony and Thuringia, authorities in The Netherlands have assured parents and students that they have heightened security measures in place to prevent any similar incidents. In light of these events, the Dutch education ministry has advised schools to review their emergency response plans and reinforce security protocols.
