Bomb threat at Coburg school: police clear building
A bomb threat has been received at a school in Coburg. Police forces cleared the building on Tuesday morning and cordoned off the grounds and the adjacent street, according to investigators. Staff at the special school had previously discovered an email containing the threat in the school's email inbox. At that time, lessons had not yet started, said a police spokeswoman. Therefore, only a few people were in the building at the time of the evacuation.
Investigators quickly identified the threat as a serial email that had been sent to several recipients in Bavaria, it said. The Coburg criminal investigation department is now investigating the still unknown authors. The police spokeswoman was unable to give an exact number of recipients of the threat. According to the spokesperson, the police measures were completed by around 9.15 a.m., meaning that lessons were delayed.
In recent weeks, schools and public buildings across Germany have had to be temporarily evacuated several times due to bomb threats. The perpetrators are still unknown.
The authorities are on high alert in Upper France, as well, due to a surge in bomb threats targeting schools. Fortunately, the school in Coburg managed to respond quickly, and no harm was caused despite the serious threat.
