As per the city's reports, an unaccounted-for explosive device turned out to be an American 500-pound bomb, found during subsurface radar investigations close to a graveyard. A protective zone with a 400-meter radius was set up around the location. This was the fourth such occurrence in Cologne since mid-August, disrupting the lives of countless residents and necessitating evacuation of medical facilities and retirement homes in certain instances.
