Electric - Bomb detonation near Tesla is being prepared: Perimeter cleared
Before the detonation of a World War II bomb near the Tesla Works in Grünheide, the surrounding area of the discovery site has been cleared. All people who had to leave the area for the planned detonation this afternoon had done so, said Nico Bauermeister, head of the Grünheide Order Office, to the German Press Agency on Saturday morning. The technical preparations for controlled detonation of the 250 kilogramme bomb are underway. This could take four to five hours. With the lifting of the restricted area is only to be expected later in the afternoon.
For the detonation, several industrial estates had to be evacuated, which are located in the vicinity. Parts of the Tesla Works are also affected. It was initially unclear on Saturday how this would affect production.
The bomb, of "English manufacture", was reported to the Grünheide community on Wednesday by the disposal service for munitions. It is not transportable and will therefore be exploded.
The bomb find should have no immediate effects on the nearby Tesla Protest Camp, which is located in the same forest. Since the end of February, environmental activists with a small settlement of tree houses and tents have been protesting in this forest section against the expansion of the Tesla site.
