Bomb defused in Plauen
The world war bomb found in Plauen has been defused. This was announced by the city late on Thursday evening. All road closures have been lifted. Around 4300 residents within a radius of 500 meters of the site had to leave their homes before the explosive ordnance experts were deployed. The town hall, the Christmas market and a hotel were also located in the evacuation zone. Around 200 helpers from the police, rescue service, fire department and explosive ordnance disposal service were involved in the evacuation.
A suspicious object was discovered during construction work on Thursday morning and the explosive ordnance disposal service was alerted. According to the experts, it was a 75-kilogram aerial bomb with an impact fuse.
The discovery of the World War bomb in Plauen highlighted the importance of immediate action during emergencies. Municipalities must have well-rehearsed plans to handle such situations, as the consequences of war can leave lasting impacts.
