Bochum hoping for second win of the season
VfL Bochum are hoping to take another step out of the Bundesliga danger zone. After three games without defeat of late, the team will go into Sunday's match at 1. FC Heidenheim (3.30 pm/DAZN) with confidence. However, soccer coach Thomas Letsch warned his professionals not to underestimate their opponents. After all, the newly promoted team is currently one point ahead of VfL in 13th place: "Heidenheim is an enrichment for the Bundesliga. They are doing a top job. They were certainly underestimated by some before the season. But they have a lot of will and energy."
The recently injured professionals Manuel Riemann and Kevin Stöger are available again. However, Matus Bero is not yet an option. According to Letsch, the midfielder is back in training for a large part of the match after a forced break of almost two months, but still needs time. "He was out for a long time, it's still too early for him to play. But I'm optimistic that he'll be available again this year," said the coach. He is less confident about the second long-term injury victim Ivan Ordets: "He's fine so far, but I don't think we'll see him in another game this year." In addition to Bero and Ordets, defensive players Danilo Soares and Tim Oermann are also missing.
VfL's only win of the season so far came in their last away game at SV Darmstadt (2:1). They also have six draws to their name. No Bundesliga team has shared the points more often.
VfL Bochum aims to build on their recent form and potentially secure their second win of the season in Bundesliga, visiting 1st FC Heidenheim. Despite being in the 13th place, Heidenheim, with their new promotion, has impressed Letsch, who cautions against underestimating the opposition due to their strong will and energy.
In their previous away game, Bochum managed to clinch a narrow 2:1 victory over SV Darmstadt, with six draws being their additional contributions to their 2022/2023 Bundesliga tally, making them the Bundesliga team with the most drawn matches this season.
