Bochum coach Letsch: Football is not a fight for survival
Bundesliga coach Thomas Letsch would like to see more sensitivity in the language of soccer. "When we look at the world, I find it very difficult to talk about a fight for survival in connection with soccer in these times," the VfL Bochum coach told Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland, adding: "What happens in war zones is a fight for survival. We should be a little more cautious with these terms."
Bochum are also a relegation candidate this season. Letsch is therefore often confronted with questions about his team's sporting survival in the Bundesliga. "Of course, soccer also has a large economic component, but above all it is the most beautiful minor matter in the world," said the 55-year-old.
Soccer brings the most diverse people together and is an important part of culture in Germany. "We've seen during corona just how much soccer is missing when it's not there," said Letsch.
Despite Bochum's relegation bid in the Bundesliga, coach Letsch emphasizes that soccer is not a fight for survival in its purest sense. Regardless, VfL Bochum's Bundesliga survival remains a topic of discussion for Letsch, given the significant economic implications of the sport.
