Bundesliga - Bochum brings back goalkeeper Drewes

VfL Bochum have recalled goalkeeper Patrick Drewes. The 31-year-old comes from Karlsruher SC and signed a two-year contract, the Football Bundesligist announced on a Wednesday. Drewes was under contract with Bochum from 2019 to 2021, joined SV Sandhausen and in the previous season went to KSC, which he left despite a contract until 2025.

"Patrick performed at a very high level in the 2. Bundesliga in recent years and was always one of the top goalkeepers there. With him, we are gaining an experienced goalkeeper who knows the VfL and its environment well", said VfL sports director Marc Lettau in a club statement.

With the signing of Drewes, the departure of Bochum's long-term number one, Manuel Riemann, is becoming increasingly likely. Riemann was not considered by the club before the relegation play-offs against Fortuna Düsseldorf due to an internal dispute. A return of the 35-year-old to the team seems excluded.
