Incident involving collisions - Boat driver receives probation for deadly mishap
According to a boat accident two years ago in Ribnitzer See, a 37-year-old boat driver might face up to nine months in jail. The event happened when he crashed into another boat carrying six occupants around 21:36 on August 16, 2022. As a result, one woman, aged 66, lost her life. The Stralsund District Court decided that the boater's probationary period would last for three years, according to a recent announcement by the prosecution.
In addition to the incarceration sentence, the judge also requested the boater to pay €2,000 to a charitable organization. The incident was first reported by the local newspaper 'Ostsee-Zeitung.' The prosecution proposed a sentence for the negligent endangerment of maritime traffic, negligent manslaughter, and negligent bodily harm against him. The driver was deemed to be responsible for exceedingly high speeds that resulted in injuries to five other individuals. The location of this incident was approximately 500 meters from the Ribnitz harbor.
The court's ruling is still not legally binding. The accused can file an appeal within two weeks of receiving the probation notice. If an appeal is made, then the court will decide a trial date.
