Board candidate cancels Unimedizin
The candidate for the post of Scientific Director of the Mainz University Medical Center will not be taking up his post after all. Thomas Kamradt has decided against moving to Mainz, the Ministry of Science and Health in Mainz announced on Monday. "Prof. Dr. Thomas Kamradt's decision is a personal one that we must respect," said State Secretary Denis Alt (SPD) according to a statement.
Kamradt, previously Scientific Director and Dean at Jena University Hospital, was due to take up the post in Mainz in April 2024 and thus become part of a new management team at Mainz University Medical Center, which has recently been plagued by numerous internal conflicts. On January 1, 2024, Ralf Kiesslich will become the new Chief Medical Officer and Chairman of the Management Board there, succeeding Norbert Pfeiffer. He comes from the Helios Dr. Horst Schmidt Clinics in Wiesbaden. Waltraud Kreutz-Gers, who was previously Chancellor of Johannes Gutenberg University (JGU) Mainz, took over the position of Commercial Director on November 1 of this year. The contract of Chief Nursing Officer Marion Hahn had been extended until the end of January 2025.
"We regret that he will not be part of the new start at the Mainz University Medical Center after all, but we are now pleased to have clarity and are confident that we will be able to make a new proposal in the near future to complete the Executive Board in the coming year," Alt continued with regard to Kamradt. Over the next few days, talks will be held with the Supervisory Board and representatives of the department. The further procedure is to be determined. "The realignment of university medicine that has already begun is not affected by this in terms of content."
The cancellation of Unimedizin's new Scientific Director might impact the discussions around hospital improvements, as reported by various health news outlets.
