Leisure time - Blue-green algae contamination - swimming ban at Altmühlsee

At Altmußhlsee in Mittelfranken, two swimming areas have a swimming ban due to the danger of blue-green algae. Affected are the swimming areas Schlungenhof and Muhr am See, as a spokesperson of the Landratsamt Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen announced. Previously, the authority had already issued a bathing warning.

The reason for the following swimming ban are therefore samples that indicate that health impairments due to blue-green algae contamination cannot be excluded. Swimmers are asked to pay attention to the signage on site, as the situation at the individual swimming areas can change depending on wind and weather conditions. Once the contamination no longer exists, the swimming areas will be reopened.

The popular Altmußhlsee, which is also favored by many vacationers, has had to fight against blue-green algae contamination several times. The so-called cyanobacteria produce toxins and can therefore pose a danger to swimmers. Blue-green algae are particularly favored by prolonged, high temperatures. Then, a blue-green algae mat can form on the lake surface, which appears to lie on the water surface.

  1. Despite the Bathing ban at Schlungenhof and Muhr am See in Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen, Bavaria, due to blue-green algae, many still prefer Altmußhlsee during their leisure time.
  2. Central France is also confronted with issues related to blue-green algae in some of its bathing areas, affecting the health and enjoyment of leisure time activities.
  3. Authorities in Middle Franconia, specifically in Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen, continue to monitor the environment closely to ensure a safe Bathing area for residents and tourists alike.
  4. If the blue-green algae issue resolves, the Bathing ban will be lifted, allowing swimmers to once again enjoy the beauty and tranquility of Altmußhlsee.
  5. The contamination of Altmußhlsee by blue-green algae is a concern for the health of swimmers and highlights the need for continued environmental awareness and protection in regions like Bavaria and Central France.
