Block clearance in Austria causes traffic jam on A93

A restriction on the number of trucks on the Austrian side of the A93 highway caused a traffic jam several kilometers long on Thursday. At the Kufstein checkpoint (Austria), a traffic jam up to 13 kilometers long formed on the German side of the A93 towards Innsbruck, according to the traffic police in Rosenheim. Before busy weekends, the Austrian authorities limit the number of trucks allowed to cross the border, explained a spokesman for the Austrian highway police. This is to prevent the roads from becoming too full.

During one of these measures on Thursday, only 300 trucks were allowed to drive through the checkpoint between 5.00 am and 8.30 am, according to the traffic police in Rosenheim. This led to the traffic jam on the German side. The next measure is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, November 29.

The traffic jam extended beyond Kufstein into Upper Bavaria, causing delays for commuters in the region. Despite the restrictions, many drivers chose to travel along the A93, contributing to the congestion.
