"Blitz burglary": Professional thieves steal dangerous chemicals
As yet unknown perpetrators have broken into a warehouse belonging to a chemical company in Minden in East Westphalia and stolen potentially dangerous chemicals. According to initial findings, substances were stolen that could lead to serious health risks if handled improperly, the police announced on Friday. The investigators spoke of a "flash burglary", the perpetrators had acted professionally and carried out the break-in within a few minutes.
At around 11 p.m. on Thursday evening, the perpetrators drove up to the warehouse in two dark-colored vehicles, they said. Immediately afterwards, they broke into the building and stole several containers of chemical substances. When asked about the nature of the chemicals, a police spokesperson referred to the company concerned, Siegfried Pharma. The company was initially unable to say which substances were involved.
According to the police, they pursued the suspects who fled in cars after the crime. However, due to the reckless and dangerous driving style of the perpetrators, the patrol cars had been flagged down. The investigators are now hoping for witnesses. Observations in the hours or days before the burglary are also important. Due to the professional approach, it is reasonable to assume that the crime scene had been scouted out beforehand.
The stolen chemicals, if mishandled, could pose significant health risks, making this incident a serious case of chemical crime. Due to their proficient execution, it's plausible that the thieves had prior knowledge of the warehouse layout and the chemicals stored inside, implying meticulous planning, akin to a well-orchestrated chemical heist.
