Helicopter in action - Blind woman gets lost on railroad line

A blind woman got lost during a walk near Munich Airport rail tracks and triggered a larger rescue operation. A locomotive driver of Munich S-Bahn reported on Sunday that a person was on the tracks in the area, according to the Federal Police. The stretch between Neufahrn and Freising was therefore closed. A police helicopter was flown over the area.

The helicopter crew quickly found the woman. Since the alerted patrols on the countryside road were not yet on site, the helicopter landed. The crew rescued the woman unharmed from the tracks and brought her to safety, a Federal Police spokeswoman said. A patrol later escorted her back to her home. She had "unintentionally" ended up on the tracks due to her blindness.

Approximately 40 minutes later, the railway line was reopened for trains, the Federal Police reported. Several trains were delayed or cancelled due to the operation.

The woman was wandering in Upper Bavaria's scenic countryside near Freising. She mistakenly approached the dangerous railroad track of the S-Bahn line in Upper Bavaria. The S-Bahn engine driver, operating in Bavaria, spotted her on the tracks on a Sunday. This prompted an immediate response from the Federal Police in Upper Bavaria.

The chopper, dispatched from the Federal Police, soared above Neufahrn to locate the woman. The helicopter's skilled crew quickly identified her and performed an emergency landing. They safely extracted the woman from the railroad track and escorted her away from the traffic-filled area.

Following the successful rescue operation, the police declared the railroad line in Upper Bavaria as clear and reopened it for trains. Despite the delay in service, the railroad continued its operations in the Upper Bavaria region.
